Last night I went out for a run, as I usually do on Tuesday nights. I’ve been working my way through the Couch to 5K app, and last night I was on Week 7 Day 3 (a 25 minute run). About six minutes in, I felt tired and achy, and found myself wondering if I could get through the full 25 minutes. Maybe, I thought, I was pushing myself too hard – I have been working out a lot lately, and my heart wasn’t in it last night. Just when I had decided to drop back to a walk, this song by Muse started playing in my earbuds. It was exactly the push I needed. I kept going, and going, and then 25 minutes was up and I felt elated.
When I’m running, I find that the first kilometre is often the hardest. At that point, it’s more mental than physical – can I really keep this up? Nine times out of ten, it turns out that I can. If I believe that I can keep going, my body usually follows.
“Dig down…you will find a way.”
Thanks Matt.
